add more than one toolbox to an existing matlab installation

Is there a way to add/install more than one toolbox at a time to an existing matlab installation?

Yes. Instead of using the Add-on Explorer, go back to the MATLAB installer, and request a custom installation

The MATLAB 2017a installer asks where it should install MATLAB and complains "Cannot install in the specified folder". There is no way to move further.

You might need to "Run as Administrator" for Windows, or you might need to sudo for Linux. (The installer for Mac always prompts for privileges.)
