C-Mex s-function: printf in mdlinitial​izeConditi​ons() has no efffect

I have a Simulink model with a C-Mex s-function with printf statements. I can use printf successfully from mdlOutputs() but printf in mdlinitializeConditions() has no efffect. Is there a way to use printf in mdlinitializeConditions()?
