Can you constrain the boundary conditions of a smoothing spline fit?

I have some data I'd like to fit with a smoothing spline, but I need the fit to intersect the first and last point in the data. Is this possible?

Do you happen to know how the smoothing spline determines the knots? Does it also use a default number of 6? I'd like to replicate the fits I obtained with the slm toolbox and only change the end conditions.
