fileparts not working properly in deployed application in matlab 2017a

when i use fileparts in matlab it gives me the corect value

filepath = fileparts('a/b/c.txt') 
% filepath = a/b

however, when i use the function with an executable it gives me a blank path (''). I dont know what is wrong.
