I receive: org.apache​.xerces.do​m.DeepNode​ListImpl@8​deb645 when using DOMnode.ge​tElementsB​yTagName('​variable')

The tage name 'variable' has a value ( <variable id="MIG" value="3" description="Change in MIG" />) and I expect to recieve a value but I recieve org.apache.xerces.dom.DeepNodeListImpl@8deb645
Any suggestion why?
