Hello,
This was working fine last night. Did'nt do anything different but now when I try to open up a gui I get this error..
Unable to read MAT-file /.../.matlab/R2007b/matlabprefs.mat: not a binary MAT-file. Try LOAD -ASCII to read as text.
I looked at the file - it is empty. I deleted it and restarted but nothing..I found this advice for Windows (<http://www.gomatlab.de/email-mit-gmx-senden-t13872.html>) but I have a Mac..
Thanks, S

Did you find a solution for this problem? I'm running into the same thing.
Thanks, Trudy
Update: After renaming the file matlab will create a new matlabprefs.mat file that does work.

For the sake of somebody else searching for this topic. I just had a similar problem out of nowhere.
I went into the directory, the file existed, but it was there without the proper extension. I added the *.mat extension to it and that fixed the problem for me. If the file is missing completely maybe you need to find a copy to put in that directory.
