View only access to MATLAB online session
Show older comments
Hello,
Does anybody know if there is a way for others to view your MATLAB online session? I am thinking a trying to recreate, for distance learners, the situation in a 'computer laboratory'/tutorial' session where I would have my local MATLAB screen projected in the room and I would make edits and re-run code. I realise I can try to do this be sharing my screen through a virtual learning environment (ours is Blackboard Collaborate but I can also use Microsoft Teams and others) but this relies on a very good connection at home. If I were to use MATLAB online can other people view what I am doing? I don't need audio, that could go through one of the channels above.

Good question. I don't have an answer but I can point you to the new Distance Learning Community where it may be helpful to start a discussion on this topic:

Hi Lee:
Right now, the only options to share your session screen is those that you have already listed. To clarify, you are interested in sharing your session with other users, with only you being the "active" participant (writing code, accessing your files, etc.) and others as "observers" (just being able to see what you are doing, but without being able to interact with anything). Does this sound correct? We can consider this as we continually work on enhancing your workflows with our products. In that context, are there other features/capabilities you would also like to see if such a feature existed?
I also concurr with Adam that the new Distance Learning Community is a great avenue to continue this discussion.
Looking forward to your reply,
Hisham

@Lee, in fact, you did post this from the DLC. I just noticed the "distance_learning" tag on this question. When you select "Ask a question" from the DLC page, it is posted in the Answers forum, too. When you select "Start a discussion" I believe it's only posted within the DLC.

Hi Lee,
Yes, you posted this through the Distance Learning community. If you have specific “how to” question about using MathWorks tools, “Ask a Question” is appropriate. For things that aren’t specifically a “how to” question, but is more of a discussion topic, “Start a Discussion” is appropriate. For this case, I think what you did is fine. Thanks for asking!
