Spatial audio problem - 4 speaker setup - 4.0 surround sound - quadraphonic

Hey all,

For an spatial audio experiment, I need to play sounds from four different speakers, placed in four different directions.

The sound comes from a 0.8s WAV file sampled at 44.1kHz. I've loaded them into matlab using wavread and have them ready to be played using the sound() routine.

However, sound() seems to only be able to drive two speakers, Left and Right. I need to have control over Front Left and Front Right. I need to play Mono wave files on each separate speaker.

I have a Creative SB X-Fi setup, which is a 7.1 surround sound system. But when I play sounds from matlab I currently only get sound from Left and Right. This also happens when I play regular music (from youtube).

Has anybody tried to do something simiar? Thanks, Samy
