Create a 2D Gaussian Distribution along a line?

I am trying to create something like a 2D gaussian distribution, but along a line or a curve instead of from a single point. Is there a name for such a thing?

Ideally the result would look something like this:

You can use fspecial() to create a Gaussian kernel, then use conv2() to blur the line/curve/path in a Gaussian shape using your kernel. I'd call that process convolution. You can also use imfilter().
