how can I use external input in real time applications?

i need to use matlab to calculate some things, and the results have to go into simulink builted model that runs. How can I do it?

Does the MATLAB code finish running before the model starts, or does the MATLAB code have to run continuously in the simulation loop?

Please, max, answer questions for clarifications. When you ignore them, the readers get the impression, that you are not interested in solving your problems. Of course this reduces the motivation to post answers to your questions.
