Simulink model Notes won't open

I was updating a Simulink Model with my notes. I'm uncertain on the cause but after a break I am unable to open my model notes for my model. I still have the file but every time I go into the settings to try and load the file, it does a reset and does not load the notes. When I create a new model notes file it seems to work but has resulted in me losing a signifcant amount of work.

Is there potentially a way to convert the .mldatx file in order to extract the text from it, or a method to find the compatibility issue between the notes and model?

A colleague has mentioned that changing hte file name to .zip and then opening the .json files within the zip folder allows you to see the text within the notes. Is this an expected method of retireving lost information.
