Why do I receive License Manager Error -12?

I receive the following error:
ERROR: License checkout failed. Invalid return data from license server. License manager error -12
The result of PING, TELNET, and NSLOOKUP all work and return the expected output. The system environment variable LM_LICENSE_FILE is pointing to the correct license file. However, MATLAB still returns License Manager Error -12. Another computer with the exact same configuration of hardware and software works fine.

It is possible that the client machine is unable to communicate with the hostname listed in the client license file. To resolve this, change the hostname listed in the SERVER line of the client license file to the fully qualified name or the IP Address of the license server machine.

The license.lic or license.dat or license.net files on the client machines are text files. You can edit them with any text editor.
