           1 2 3
           1 2 3

then

y(:,:,1) = 1 0 0
           4 5 0
           7 8 9

y(:,:,2) = 1 0 0
           2 5 0
           3 6 9

y(:,:,3) = 1 0 0
           1 2 0
           1 2 3
