This code identifies the polygon (e.g. geographic basin) for each point in an input set of points from among an input set of polygons (e.g. geographic basins). Polygons cannot be overlapping. Designed for geographic data, though can work for any coordinate system. Example is included that makes a plot for geographic data.
This simplifies a common issue when working with geospatial data: the world or a region is broken up into sub-regions, and you want to then bin some set of datapoints into their respective sub-regions.
