When the light produced on the MQWs interacts with the PhC in order to excite the mode, light is reflected upwards and downwards perpendicularly to the PhC's surface plane. The light travelling downwards (bottom side of the device) will be partly reflected on the electrode's metal which will be covering the bottom end of the device. This light will be directed upwards and will interact with the light primarily reflected upwards on the PhC. Therefore, the cladding layer thickness is tuned in order to promote constructive interference between the two waves. A basic Matlab script was written for this task.
