A simple model of a linear delta modulator and demodulator is presented. A sinusoid is used as an input to the modulator and a delayed version of the same sinusoid is presented at the output of the demodulator.

In delta modulation, a continuous signal is sampled at t=n and compared against with the previous sample at t=[n-1]. The difference (+/-) is fed to a one-bit quantizer outputting either an 1 or 0. For the sake of simplificity, no encoder/decoder are included in this model. The bits can be demodulated by an accumulator followed by a low-pass filter.
