Optical modelling is an essential process that should be carried out to be able to study the performance of solar cells. By observing literature, it was concluded that the optical modelling of new generations of solar cells using analytical optics is a challenge. Herein, we introduce a basic model that can integrate characterization matrix method in the optical modelling of electro-chemical solar cells as a cascaded series of thin films. The model is implemented and tested on DSSCs; however, it can be expanded to other MSSCs such as PSCs. The transmission, reflection and absorption of DSSCs with variable active layer thickness have been studied. The proposed model simply works by solving the transmission coefficient (t) and reflection coefficient (r)
