Virtual Simulation Environment for Traffic Sign Recognition Systems
Yu Yamauchi, Mazda Motor Corporation
Traffic sign recognition (TSR) is an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that uses cameras and other sensors to detect traffic signs and road information, displaying this information on the vehicle’s instrument cluster or head-up display to prevent drivers from missing signs and to support safe driving. In recent years, as systems have become more complex and regulations more stringent, the test conditions for TSR development have diversified. As a result, real-vehicle validation requires enormous time and cost.
To improve development efficiency, Mazda has built a virtual simulation environment that integrates RoadRunner products with MATLAB® and Simulink®. With this approach, simulation replaces part of the real-vehicle validation, enabling efficient and effective testing. In this presentation, Mazda introduces the details of the virtual simulation environment they have built and examples of its application in TSR development.
