Why do I get a license manager error -194: INVALID error code when I start MATLAB?

The license manager error -194 indicates that the checkout request for a MATLAB license was denied as performing the checkout would ex MAX limit specified in the options file. Consult your license administrator to see if the MAX limit can be raised, or if they just need to wait for a license to free up.
