How to get MATLAB to stop being Busy and function correctly?

Every time I open my MATLAB 2014a, it says at the bottom that it is "Initializing..." for a few minutes or until I try do something. Then, it says it's Busy, and I can't perform any tasks within the program. I've tried ctrl+c but it did not work. Quitting the program casuses MATLAB to freeze and I have to Force Quit each time. Help?
