Why does MATLAB install with 777 file permissions on Linux or MacOS?

This is a known issue that can occur when installing MATLAB at R2021b on Linux or MacOS due to a installation task failing to run properly. You can workaround this issue by manually changing the permissions of your MATLAB installation directory.
This issue was resolved in MATLAB R2021b Update 2 and MATLAB R2022a.
