It may be because another program was using the built-in microphone? Maybe try rebooting or check if the mic is being used

If by "crash" you mean MATLAB shows a stack trace and/or immediately disappears, please send the crash log file to MathWorks Technical Support directly using the Contact Support link under the Get Support heading at the end of this page. This Answers post lists where you can find the crash log files. Hope the issue gets resolved. Thanks!
