Installing MATLAB R2008b to R2017a is supported using offline workflows only. This article summarizes the recommended process for downloading the MATLAB product files, retrieving your license file and file installation key, and installing and activating MATLAB.

Download Product File (ISO or DMG Image)

Download the ISO image (Windows and Linux) or DMG image (macOS) containing all product files for the desired release. Downloading individual products works only for online workflows and is no longer supported for R2008b to R2017a.
  1. Navigate to the following page: https://www.mathworks.com/downloads
  2. From the Select Release list, select your release.
  3. Click the download button to obtain the ISO or DMG image for your platform. If you are installing products on a different platform, change the platform from the drop-down menu.

Get License File and File Installation Key

To complete the installation and activation process, you will need both a license file and file installation key. To download the license file and copy the file installation key, follow the instructions in Where can I find my license file and file installation key?

Install and Activate MATLAB

Once you have the ISO or DMG image, license file, and file installation key, you have everything you need to proceed with the installation.
  1. Mount or extract the ISO or DMG image. For help with this process, see How do I mount an ISO or DMG image to install MathWorks products?
  2. Within the mounted ISO or DMG image, start the MATLAB installer by running setup.exe (Windows) or setup.sh (Linux and macOS).
  3. After the installer opens, select the following option for your release:
    1. R2008b to R2013b: Select the option to install manually without using the Internet and click Next.
    2. R2014a to R2017a: Select the option to use a file installation key and click Next.
  4. Accept the license agreement and click Next.
  5. Select I have the File Installation Key for my license and enter the file installation key you retrieved. Click Next.
  6. Optionally specify installation options and click Next.
  7. Select an installation folder and click Next.
  8. Click Install.
  9. Once installation is complete. Click Next to start the process for activating MATLAB.
  10. On the activation page, select Activate manually without the Internet and click Next.
  11. Select Enter the path to the license file and browse for the license file you retrieved. Click Next.
  12. Click Finish to start MATLAB.
