Unable to Start Matlab

I had downloaded and installed Matlab R2015a in widows 7 enterprise (64 bit). I am however unable to start MATLAB. when I click on the Matlab icon the splash screen comes up and goes away almost instantly. I had initially resolved this issue based on the below solution which I had found on the web, but that does not work now. How should I proceed to fix this. Thanks!
Solution which once worked but no longer works for me:
- open control panel>system>advanced>envirionmental variables
- click new under your username variables
- name it MATLAB_RESERVE_LO and set it to 0
- logout and back in, start matlab (it will work :o)

How can a license key clash with some other software on the PC? The other software isn't going to be looking for license keys in inside MATHWORK's portion of the registry.
