How can I compile a standalone MATLAB application with startup options (e.g. nojvm)?

I would like a standalone application I am compiling to startup with software OpenGL. How can I accomplish this?

The startup options for a compiled application can be specified in the 'Settings' menu:

1. Open the MATLAB Compiler window.
2. Click the 'Settings' button in the toolstrip.
3. Type '-R -softwareopengl' (without the single-quotes) in the text box towards the top.

This approach doesn't seem to work for me. I'm trying to compile an app with 2018a (compiler version 6.6) and I want it to be executed using software OpenGL no matter what. I build an app that summarizes the current openGL settings and compiled it as indicated with the -R -softwareopengl appendix (snipped from my logfile: mcc -R -softwareopengl -o getOpenGLsettings -W WinMain:getOpenGLsettings -T link:exe ...). When I run the deployed app on my Windows 10 laptop it indicates that hardware OpenGL is used despite the settings I made in the compiler... I would appreciate any suggestion/tip or workaround!
