Why do I receive a "Support Software Installer Error" when installing a Support Package on Windows?

When installing a Support Package using an "offline" installation package or MLPKG file, I receive the following error message:
Support Software Installer Error
System does not have the required MATLAB version to start the support package installation.
How can I proceed with installing my Support Package?

When installing a Support Package using either of these methods, the installer may try to launch within a different version of MATLAB that exists on your computer, rather than the version you downloaded the support package installer for. 
To avoid this error, Right-Click on the support package installer you have downloaded and choose "Open With...". This will allow you to choose which version of MATLAB you want to launch the installer for.
