reference distance and array factor?

Hi everyone, I am working with microphone Array Toolbox which make it possible to design microphone Arrays and having the beam pattern of each. Lately I am facing some definitions which are new to me. Like Array factor and reference distance. Could you please explain it to me? thank you.
