I am trying to run Simulink Desktop Real-Time on my Windows 7 SP1 machine, but after installing some recent Windows updates, whenever I try to run a model the computer immediately shuts down. There are no warnings or error messages and no blue screen.

This issue is related to Windows updates KB4056894 and KB4056897.
If you try to run a simple Simulink Desktop Real-Time model in external mode on a Windows 7 SP1 machine with these updates installed, the model will build and then as soon as it starts to run, the computer shuts down. The issue affects releases up till MATLAB R2017b Update 5.
There is a patch published as a MathWorks Bug Report that addresses this issue for MATLAB R2015a through MATLAB R2017a. Please follow the instructions at the following link to download and install the patch:
If you are experiencing this issue for releases prior to MATLAB R2015a the only options to resolve the shutdowns are to upgrade to a newer release of MATLAB or uninstall the Windows 7 updates listed above.
