Xlsread function gives error!!!

Hi guys, I get this error when I'm runnig my code named Frame_Analysis, please help me out, thanks in advance.
Warning: Could not start Excel server for import, 'basic' mode will be used. Refer to HELP
XLSREAD for more information.

Warning: Range cannot be used in 'basic' mode. The entire sheet will be loaded.

In Frame_Analysis at 13
Warning: XLS File contains unrecognized string header - skipping remaining text -

The combination of the OS and MATLAB version which you are using do not support other mode than 'basic' when using xlsread().

A previous question indicates that excel 2010 is installed (also R2012a). I have not, however, been able to determine with certainty the operating system that is being used.
