Why do I receive a License Error -9 when using a PolySpace Client locked to the computer's hard drive?

When trying to launch a PolySpace client I receive License Error -9 "unable to check out feature PolySpace Client". This is a standalone license that is locked to my computer's hard drive Host ID. How do I resolve this error so that I can use the PolySpace Client?

This error may occur if the license was not locked properly to the computer's hard drive. When providing the Host ID for a computer's hard drive, the Host ID should be in the format DISK_SERIAL_NUM= and then the computer's hard drive Host ID. If just the Host ID is provided, you will receive a license error.
To resolve this, you will need to rehost the license to the DISK_SERIAL_NUM format. For example:
DISK_SERIAL_NUM=1234abcd
Alternatively, for a standalone installation, you can use the computer's network card physical address (MAC address). See the solution below for more assistance with obtaining the computer's Host ID.
Once updated you should be start the PolySpace client.
