Is the GNU gfortran compiler supported for use with the MEX command?

I would like to use the GNU gfortran compiler to build Fortran MEX code using using the MEX command.

The GNU gfortran compiler support for compiling MEX files was introduced in MATLAB 7.12 (R2011a) and later.
