Why do I get an Incorrect Function error while installing MATLAB?

While installing my Student Version of MATLAB I receive the following error:
ERROR: The following error was detected while installing <filename>
Incorrect function
Would you like to retry installing <filename> If you press No, the installer will exit without completing the installation. More information can be found at....

This error could mean that the product archive or DVD may be corrupted. If you are installing using downloaded files, try redownloading them again. Otherwise, contact Installation Support for more assistance:
