How can I read the CPU Temperature with Simulink Real-Time?

When a CPU gets overheated (e.g. due to fan failure), model behavior can change unexpectedly and CPU frequency can be scaled down in hardware. Early detection of CPU overheating is required to issue a warning and put machines in a safe mode of operation before temperature problems can introduce real problems.

Is there a way to read the CPU temperature in Simulink Real-Time?

For R2020b onwards, consider using the "Read CPU temperature" block from the Speedgoat I/O Blockset. From R2017a to R2020a, you can use the CPU Temperature block from the Simulink Real-Time / Target Management library. To access the release-specific documentation, execute the following command in the MATLAB R2020a command window:

>> web(fullfile(docroot, 'xpc/io_ref/cputemperature.html'))

This CPU Temperature block was removed from our library as part of the major changes in Simulink Real-Time R2020b. For more information on these changes, refer to the R2020b Simulink Real-Time release notes by executing the following command in the MATLAB R2020b command window:

>> web(fullfile(docroot, 'slrealtime/release-notes.html'))

In R2016b and earlier, the ability to read the CPU temperature is not available in Simulink Real-Time.
