MATLAB Individual is the recommended license option for both personal and shared computers, and it is installed without an activation requirement. Mass deployment of MATLAB (R2023b and newer) is possible by utilizing your system management software with the MathWorks silent / non-interactive installer.
  1. Download ISO Image
  2. Retrieve File Installation Key (MATLAB Individual)
  3. Install Non-interactively (see NOTES below before you start)
The first time a user launches MATLAB, they will see a login prompt for their MathWorks account credentials or university credentials, if Single-Sign On (SSO) is enabled. After logging in, the user may continue to access MATLAB offline for several months or until license renewal.
Note: New users without a MathWorks Accounts at MATLAB startup will be able to quickly create one using their University email address at the login prompt, and they will be automatically linked to the MATLAB Individual license.
  • For releases R2023a and older, please contact MathWorks Installation Support.
  • Permanently offline machines or shared machines with shared OS usernames, i.e., matlab_user, are not currently supported with MATLAB Individual and should instead be installed with the Designated Computer license option.
  • If you are reinstalling MATLAB to transition to named user licensing, you will need to first uninstall MATLAB on Windows machines. For mass uninstallations, you may use the non-interactive uninstaller: Uninstall MATLAB from Windows Command Line.
For more information on installing with the Campus-Wide License see the Quick Start Guide for Administrators.
