Difference between gray and grey

That is a great feature of english language and matlab, eg I can use the spelling "colour" for having nice variable names that are taken by builtin functions, eg colourmap = colormap. Moreover whenever I see "colour" in code I know I wrote it because nobody around me uses that spelling in code. Hope they take the change back in the next 1st of april matlab update.

My English teacher in school taught me that "grey" has an "e" in it because it's English, while "gray" has an "a" because it's American. So, since MathWorks is a US company, it's clearly rgb2gray!

Right. I didn't learn that until well into adulthood. I just thought they were alternative spellings, with no international considerations.

Though Gray Code is always with an "a" because it is named after Frank Gray.
