Where else can we discuss the importance of comments on polls?

In case it weren't obvious, I was pointing out the fact that W waheed's comment is its own counterevidence.
That is, the purpose for a comment section on anything is to provide a place to put commentary -- including suggestions that commentary is unnecessary.

My school never did give me a copy. I had to rely on octave for the longest time. But now it's given to me by my organization.

I put down "Gift" since there was no option for "I'm using Octave, the Free Software workalike".

I started out with MATLAB decades ago and still occasionally refer to this website for documentation, but I've found GNU Octave to be more than sufficient for my work as a Computer Scientist. Our institution has an academic site license for MATLAB and it is what we teach students. Still, I personally prefer the open source "knock off". I love that it so easy for me to see how it works and customize it to our department's needs.

I know I'm unusual, probably because my particular field of work doesn't require any of the newer features from MATLAB.

I normally much prefer python, but some classes are simply taught in matlab, so I use it there to make it easier to follow along.

I suppose "gift from MathWorks" qualifies for employees?
